Under this head, project proposals/activities like Research & Development, pilot studies, prototype development, display, demonstration and training of developed technologies etc are considered for financial support with overall aim to develop indigenous technology and transfer of proven technologies to users. Projects/ Programmes in thrust areas relevant to state are invited from Central & State Govt. financed Engineering colleges / institutions, Technical university & R&D laboratories etc. located in the state through state wide circular & advertisment in leading newspapers. The research projects of applied nature are given preference specially the research projects lying between threshold of bench scale research and pilot project stages. Further the efforts are concentrated on such projects, which have lesser gestation period, have economic relevance for society in general and to weaker section and rural areas in particular and which aim to increase the income of poor and to improve the quality of life of the people. In the past, CST, UP supported many R&D projects of Engineering & Technology discipline to reputed Central Govt. Engg. Colleges / institutions like IIT, Kanpur, ZH College of Engg. & Technology, AMU, Aligarh, IT, BHU, Varanasi, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (Deemed university) Allahabad etc. and reputed State Government funded Engineering Colleges/Institutions like HBTI, Kanpur & IET, Lucknow etc. After obtaining comments of experts, the research projects / proposals are evaluated/screened by duly constituted expert group for Engineering & Technology area. Recommendations of the expert group are then put up before Executive Committee of the Council for approval. After approval by the Executive Committee, financial assistance for the project is given as grant-in-aid for a period of two to three years. There is also well designed procedure for evaluation of progress report of on-going research projects. The progress reports (Ist year/IInd year/IIIrd year) of on-going research projects are evaluated by same subject experts. After review of the progress of the project by the Subject Experts, the grant for next year of the project is released by CSTUP.
